DEKALB ANIMAL HOSPITAL
125 22ND ST. NW
FORT PAYNE, AL 35967

Horrible vet. We took our dog in and he needed surgery. I asked how much it was going to be and they told me 200 dollars. When I went to pick him up they raised the price to 278. I was able to argue down to 225 but still, no other vet I have ever worked with has ever gone over the price without a phone call at least first.

Then, They rewrapped his leg, MUCH to tight causing his leg to swell up and requiring a special trip back to them (30 miles) and another overnight stay so they could watch his condition. I went to pick him up today and they CHARGED ME for their mistake!

The People up front are the rudest people I have ever seen. How they keep their jobs is beyond me.

I'm issuing a chargeback on my credit card for the faulty service they rendered and letting everyone know just how disappointing a vet they are.

We REFUSE to take our pet back to them, and have already found a new vet to finish out his treatment.

Our dog was hit by a car. We took her to Shelby Animal Clinic, as they were the closest available clinic open at 5 p.m. My husband was chastised by Marsha Zahumensky, (vet),for not bringing our dog to her clinic for the past 4-5 years, even making the comment that it was "obvious she's been somewhere, she has her rabies tag." After 2 x-rays, it was determined that Stella's spinal cord was severed and she must be put down. BEFORE this; however, my husband had to endure yet more judgment/critisism from Marsha because he did not have $199.16 cash on him.

It was wrong of this woman to judge my husband's character without knowing anything about us. My husband is an honest and decent man with a wonderful reputation and for her to accuse him of "skipping out" on the bill was just the last straw. Although my husband did not have cash with him, the bill was paid this morning and out in today's mail. Had it not been so late last evening, he would have driven the 27 miles to the clinic and given it to her then. Such a tragic and painful time for us was made even worse by the horrendous treament provided by this cold and uncaring individual. True enough, we did take Stella there approximately 4-5 years ago when we rescued her off the streets. We did not return to that clinic after the initial visit because we felt that Marsha, (specifically), had a cold and nonchalant demeanor, more concerned with selling products/dog food than the actual care of the animal. (I have seen this on other complaint sites as well about this clinic). The ONLY reason he took her there last night was becasue THEY WERE THE CLOSEST AVAILABLE VET OPEN AT THAT TIME and in a race to save Stella's life, we did what we thought was best for her.

My husband left that clinic with our Stella, brought her home, and buried her by truck headlights on our property late in the evening.

This is not the place you want to be when your pet is ill and/or dying. You will find no comfort there.

I also was pulled in by Maria Stephens. I put a deposit on an Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, it was suppose to be AKC. However, I have since found out the pups are CKC, and I refuse to pay that kind of money for any CKC dog. I probably won't get my deposit back, and she refuses to answer her phone when she sees it's me calling. I just want the public to know about this woman that lives over in Silver Hill selling Maltese and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. She is a crook. Buyer beware!!!

My best opinion, if you truly believe there are other dogs being mistreated, start taking notes, while everything is fresh in your mind/memory.

Read my post on how to report animal cruelty at http://www.grassrootsar.org/2008/how-to-report-cruelty-to-animals/

Also, you can find Alabama state laws on animal cruelty here at http://www.grassrootsar.org/alabama/category/animal-rights/

I hope this helps.

And I thank you for taking the dog, and hope he treats you as well as you treat him, now that he has a new chance at life.

Could you please tell me if you are familiar with a lady by the name of Maria Stephens? I purchaced a dog from her in august. The dog was supposed to be a akc registerd 2 year old white poodle. However when I went to pick the dog up the dog was very lathargic when I quetioned this she said she gave the poor thing a medicine called ace. I felt horrible for the dog so I paid her and went ahead and took the dog, who was clearly alot older than 2 {my vet estimated he was 11 years old} most of the teeth are gone and infection in his mouth he was very thin we could see his ribs.

My concern is she has other dogs who are being mistreated. Can you please tell me what I should do ? Thank you for taking the time to reply

There are all kinds of "Urban Legends" or "Old Wives Tales" (ie. predator urine [like fox, coyote], moth balls, ammonia, or even ultra-sonic devices, etc.) but these do not work.

The only way is to get them trapped. They may have to get returned though if they become part of the spay/neuter and release program. This may be the overall best way though. This way their scent stays around, and other cats won't want to come into their territory.

Some shelters and humaine societies, offer traps at no charge, you take the traps home, catch the cats, and call them to come and pick them up when you have caught one. They will "fix" the cat, then return it.

Checking your area, you may want to call BJC County Animal Services, at 1-205-780-7281 and see if they will help you out.

And if your lawn needs watering, you may want to look into getting motion-activated water sprinklers, that way anytime the cat(s) come within your limits they get a bit wet, they will soon get the message.

I have several feral cats that have taken up residence around my house.( 2 adult and about 4 kittens) I need them gone.
I don't own a gun and it is illegal to fire a gun in Pleasant Grove anyway except at the FOP range which they do enthusiasticly. (sounds like a war nearly every day) Can some one hook me up with a "cat-be-gone" service?
