CAUCUSES AND ALTERNATIVE GROUPS

NOTE: Proposals for caucuses and alternative groups are still being taken, even after the November 19th workshop deadline. Click here to submit a proposal for a caucus or alternative group.

The following text is adapted from a guide by the Student Environmental Action Coalition, a national network of students and youth working for environmental justice and against all forms of oppression. While many of the references in the text refer specifically to this group, similar versions of the models that they are discussing are used by activists groups in many movements, including anti-sweatshop, corporate reform, and anti-war.

Caucuses
What is a Caucus?
What is an Alternative Group?
What are we supposed to talk about, anyway?
Do Caucuses and Alternative Groups actually do anything but talk?
If we are supposed to end oppression together, why meet separately?
Could my local group organize Caucuses and Alternative Groups too?
What about other issues of oppression?
