TRAVEL

Please peruse the links below for travel information. Every attendee should read through the GETTING TO GARC section and familiarize themselves with travel to and within NYC.

Many attendees have been asking about parking. There are many more cars than parking spaces in Manhattan, so don’t count on finding a space on the street. Parking in a lot or garage in New York is very expensive (around $30 - $40 / 24-hour day), but doable if you split it among a carful of people. Parking on the street is NOT recommended for those with out-of-state license plates, and no matter where you park DO NOT leave valuables in your car.

Please email us with any questions about traveling.

Parking
Parking near GARC is outrageously cheap compared to the rest of Manhattan: $15/day (24 hours) in an attended garage at 184th and Broadway. The garage has entrances at 184th Street and 185th Street off Broadway. People can pay at the end of the conference. If people leave the lot and reenter, they must pay again. For more information, the manager, Andrew, can be reached at 212 569-1800.

The garage is about six blocks from the church (on 179th), an easy walk. Broadway is a very popular shopping block, and filled with pedestrians at almost all hours. We believe it is a safe block to walk on, both day and most hours of the night. But you should use your own judgment based on your own level of comfort traveling in New York. (In contrast, those coming by public transportation will arrive at the G.W. Bridge Bus Station, literally across the street from the church, and there's a police station in the bus station. Zero stress.)

Parking on the street is NOT recommended for those with out-of-state license plates, and whether you park in the garage or on the street DO NOT leave valuables in your car.

Want FREE garage parking? Consider lending your car (and driving talents) to GARC for food and supplies pickup before and during the conference. For more information, contact Adam Weissman at adam@grassrootsar.org
